About

KDIC is a non-commercial station broadcasting at 88.5 on the FM dial in the Grinnell area. We are owned by the Trustees of Grinnell College, and are student run and managed.  We first went on air in 1968.  KDIC’s staff and DJs are mostly students, with occasional other members of the Grinnell College community. Applications for new shows are due near the beginning of each semester, and we hire staff near the end of each term.

Our 130 watt signal covers the town of Grinnell and some of the surrounding corn fields. We also stream our broadcast online.

In the Fall of 2011, KDIC started making radical changes to its traditional structure, tripled its staff, and started drastically expanding its footprint.  As of January 19, 2012, we consider this site to be in its development stages still.  As such, you may not find content on some pages yet, and things are likely to change around over the next couple months.  Have no doubt, though – this will be a central hub for KDIC going forward, and we expect to have all of our systems set up by the end of the Spring 2012 semester.  We’re excited about the fresh, original content that we’ll be delivering shortly, and encourage you to return to the site frequently as we head into Spring semester and significantly ramp up our efforts.

If you’d like to get in touch with us or if you have a complaint, send us an email.

The life and times of a young radio station: a vague history of KDIC

Hello from an alumni who was probably on the station long before most of you were born. Many happy memories of late nights on Kay-Dic. I actually had a brief if intense career in radio started a couple of years after graduation (way back in 1979) and lasted the early 2000′s. I had the schedule for my last semester at Grinnell on my bedroom wall for a long time to come. Hope you all enjoy your time and make the most of what you learn….the real world isn’t reallly as bad as you here.
